Extending the interconnect reach of MiniSAS Cables

A new line of MiniSAS Cables assemblies comes in the form of high-performance, cost-effective cabling solutions for high-speed serial buses supporting 4X Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) architectures. The copper cables from Tyco Electronics are designed to be fully compliant with 3 Gbit/s SAS and 6 Gbit/s SAS protocols. Target product applications include mass storage systems, storage area networks and switches, servers and routers. We are very proud of our company’s leadership in developing the silicon for new active MiniSAS (External / Internal)  technology that now has culminated in successful interoperability demonstrations of active cable interconnects, said Gourgen Oganessyan, Strategic Marketing Manager and Quellan’s representative at the T10 Physical Working Group. Extending the interconnect reach of 10 meters specified by the current standard by a factor of over two removed a severe limitation in the operation of today’s datacenters, while retaining complete backward compatibility with existing passive interconnects.
